Survivor South Africa promises to be full of surprises and excitement. We recently spoke to the curator/island keeper of Santa Carolina, the island that will play host to Survivor South Africa. He gave us some interesting facts on the beautiful coastline that our celebs will be calling home.

- The palm trees on the island are more than 100 years old

- Santa Carolina was once one of best holiday spots in Africa. Most of the visiting tourists came from South Africa and Zimbabwe

- Unfortunately, 12 years of Civil War and Apartheid led to the closing of South African borders and the fall of Rhodesia. All tourism was halted and Santa Carolina was isolated and fell into ruin.

- In its hay-day, Santa Carolina attracted A-list International Celebrities, including Bob Dylan. He composed his song ‘Mozambique’ on a piano in the hotel itself. The piano currently sits in Indigo Bay Resort and will return to its home when the Island Resort’s restoration is completed within the next few years.

When is M-Net’s Open Time closing? M-Net’s Open Time closes on 1 April 2007. The final Open Time broadcast is on Saturday 31 March.

When is Open Time coming to an end? Why? On the 31st of March. This decision was made by the The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) last year.

Why is Open Time closing? Last year ICASA (The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) ruled in favour of closing M-Net's Open Time window.

Will M-Net’s schedule between 17:00 and 19:00 change when Open Time closes? Earlier this year, M-Net introduced an hour of daily drama between 18:00 and 19:00, with Egoli at 18:00 and Binnelanders at 18:30. This slot has been performing extremely well and will continue after Open Time closes. (Also note: Open Time viewers who still want to catch Binnelanders and Egoli now have various options – see point 4) There will changes to programming between 17:00 and 18:00. While Open Time was still running, M-Net used this slot as a promotional window for programmes on its niche channels on DStv channels, like kykNET and GO. As the majority of viewers will already have access to these shows, M-Net will in future give viewers who missed the previous evening’s hour-long prime time series (screened at either 19:00 or 19:30) the opportunity to catch up on all the drama or comedy. The only exception is Thursday evenings. On Thursdays M-Net will screen specials between 17:00 and 18:00. The 17:00 schedule for April 2007: Mondays - Stand-Off Tuesdays - ER season 12 Wednesdays - Smallville season 6 Thursdays - Specials Fridays - Shark season 1 SuperSport fills the 17:00 – 19:00 slot on Saturdays. On Sundays Everwood is screened at 17:00 and the hit game show Deal or No Deal at 18:00.
