Coming up on Carte Blanche
Sunday 2 August 2009

Chicken Run

It may sound callous, but it's a fact that commercial farmers producing hens for egg production dispose of day-old male chicks by gassing or macerating them. That's the standard modus operandi. But not all farmers abide by the rules and some go to extraordinary lengths to conceal unacceptable practices. Carte Blanche investigates poultry farming in the North West.
Presenter: Devi Sankaree Govender
Producer: Susan Puren
Journalist: Wynand Grobler

Malcolm Gladwell
He's the best-selling author of "Blink" and "The Tipping Point" and was recently in South Africa to decode the real and often overlooked secrets of extraordinary success. What do Bill Gates and the Beatles have in common and why are Asians often good at maths? Carte Blanche examines the unusual mind of Malcolm Gladwell.
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Joy Summers

Fraudster on the Run
Is he a brilliant young foreign exchange investor - or a fraud and a thief who has evaded arrest? Self-confessed financial guru Servaas Louwrens somehow, it's alleged, managed to get unsuspecting South Africans to part with R80-million, which has now vanished, leaving investors devastated. Police say they can't find him, can Carte Blanche?
Presenter: Bongani Bingwa
Producer: Este de Klerk
Journalist: Wynand Grobler

Riaan Manser
"No Food For Lazy Man" is his motto and he's just put that to the test once again. Riaan Manser first appeared on Carte Blanche in 2004 after he'd pedalled around Africa on a bicycle. Now it's a kayak and this time it's Madagascar. Carte Blanche circumnavigates the island with this off-beat adventurer.
Presenter: Derek Watts
Producer: Amalia Christoforou
